For those that have the older version of the Glock pistols – the one without a tactical rail, here is a great little add-on for them so the old trusty Glock will have the ability to use rail attachments.

I make no claim to having any insight to this product and when I’m finished showing it, I’ll give a link to it.

Metal Jericho Picatinny Rail

Allowing rail based flash lights & accessories such as M3/M6 to be mounted.

Allows rear rocker switch to be activated by the fire control finger or the thumb of the off hand.

Three piece lightweight aluminum that easily clamps over the existing Jericho trigger guard.

The installation only requires a small wrench, included in the package.

The rail fits tight enough to retain zero of the M6 laser.

Machined from billet 6061 T6 aluminum alloy.

Hard coat anodized matte black per mil-spec.

I found this holster by accident. I needed a side holster that would fit the Glock 17 and Smith&Wesson MP9.

The person from the gun shop that was helping me that day showed me this small holster that fit both (it fit the G17 better though).

The Tagua “Quickdraw Holster”.

When I say concealed carry holster, I mean under the shirt-tail holster. It has enough slant to make a small footprint under the shirt.

Once you put this on your belt, the contour of your body pull the leather tighter against the pistol.

One of the things I did was an old baseball trick. I soaked the holster in water for about an hour – long enough to make sure the holster was well saturated and then put the Glock 17 into the holster and set them out in the sun to dry.
When the sun dries the leather; it tightens up the grip and contours to the pistol. After the holster was dry; I removed the Glock (and gave it a good cleaning) and used some good leather oil to re-seal the holster.

The great thing about this holster is it’s price. The site’s MSRP for this holster is $42.00, but I picked it up for around $35.00

I still use my Blackhawk CQC holster for both; G17 and MP9, but when I don’t want that big of a holster footprint; I use the Tagua Quickdraw holster.

I had a chance today to take a new pistol to the range. I was NOT excited about this particular pistol, but after the day at the range was over, I came away with a better Much better feeling than when I started.

The Kel-Tec PF9 was the pistol I took with me today and was able to run through two – 100 round boxes of ammo.
The price tag of this pistols isn’t bad; $333.00. I can think of a few pistols that didn’t do as well as this one did that costs a LOT more.

The largest thing I found with the Kel-Tec PF9 was how easy it is to conceal.

This pistols is a small frame pistol:

Specs:

length: 57⁄8 in (149 mm)

height: 41⁄4 in (108 mm)

width: 7⁄8 in (22 mm)

weight: 14.5 oz (410 g)

trigger pull: 6 lb 8 oz (29 N)

9 mm Luger caliber

3.5 in (89 mm) barrel with 6 grooves and 1:16 right-hand twist

7+1 round detachable steel single-column magazine

short recoil operated locked breech

semi-automatic

double action only trigger mechanism

hammer block safety system

three dot sight system with windage adjustable rear sight

This is from the Kel-Tec’s website:

The PF-9 is a semi-automatic, locked breech pistol, chambered for the 9 mm Luger cartridge. It has been developed from our highly successful P-11 and P-3AT pistols with maximum concealability in mind. The PF-9 has a single stack magazine holding 7 rounds. It is the lightest and flattest 9 mm ever made. Firing mechanism is Double-Action Only with an automatic hammer block safety. The PF-9 will be available in blued, parkerized, and hard chrome finishes. Grips will be in black, grey, and olive drab.
The PF-9 accessory rail will accept the latest compact weapon lights and lasers.

I think my Glock 36 might have to make room in the cabinet!

The Kel-Tec PF9 is a small frame, light weight weapon that is perfect for a concealed carry pistol. The holster I used for this pistol is the Tagua Quick Draw holster. This is a belt holster that rides high enough with an angle that makes it perfect for a quick removal holster.

I’m not a huge fan of small pistols, but this one made a good impression when I first held it. THIS is why I took it to the range. The grip felt Good and felt like you could shoot it all day without a problem with slipping because of sweating.

This pistol is NOT a complicated pistol:

Once broken down, there is only one more part than the Glock has – the slide lock pin.

Out of 200 rounds, I had two jams. The first jam happened at around shot 30 and the second jam happened around shot 75. After the second jam, I took it back to the truck and field-stripped it. I gave it a GOOD cleaning to remove all the packaging grease and then re-lubed the pistol and took it back to the 35 foot mark and started shooting again. I went through the rest of the first box of 100 and then the second box of 100 without another jam.

One thing I noticed after shooting was how dirty the front of the pistol was. I attributed this to the rounds I was shooting and the fact the pistol is so short.

After shooting it, I packed it back up and took it back to the shop; filled out the paperwork, waited for the law enforcement check to come back, and paid the man.

If you need a good backup concealed carry weapon; the Kel-Tec PF9 is not a bad choice at all.

To be completely honest, this pistol is actually a present for my better half.
Needless to say; it’ll find it’s way into my pocket when I’m traveling.

I would suggest heading to you local gunshop (if it has a range) and ask to put a few down range with the Kel-Tec PF9 to see if it’s the right CCW for you.

I just thought it was Pretty interesting that after 4 or 5 months from purchase and probably 3 to 4 months after the recall went out; I finally got a notice to send it in.

I thought Ruger’s customer service was much better than this..

Time to dust off the rifles and shotguns and hit the woods!

Well,,, for a Lot of people it’s getting that time again. For me, it’s time to start stocking up on ammo and oiling up the pistols and heading to the range. The weather is becoming Perfect for it!

Most of my hunting now consists of a camera attached to a rifle stock and a monopod attached to it.

I think it’s about time to buy another deer stand for huting. While I don’t really hunt anymore, nothing says I can sit in a deer stand for hours for that “perfect shot” again, but this time with a camera…

Since a friend of mine decided to purchase a Glock 36, I decided to take a look at a subcompact model I had been looking at for a few months now – the Glock 33.

The G33 is a .357 cal subcompact Glock.

I used to own a Smith & Wesson .357 magnum a ,, um,, long time ago. It was the very first handgun I had ever purchased and I purchased it at what use to be my favorite gun shop in Alabama – “Helm” Gun shop. The place is no longer there – the place now is a fireworks stand.

Back to the G33.

Glock’s page has this about the pistol:

GLOCK 33

Pocket rocket

High muzzle velocity and energy packed in
an easy handling subcompact pistol:
The GLOCK 33 in .357 opens up entirely
new possibilities for you. The proven
GLOCK design is comfortable worn concealed.
Nine rounds are available for use in the standard magazine.
As a backup weapon with superior ballistic performance, the “pocket rocket” is second to none.

Glock’s Tech Specs on the G33:

CALIBER
.357
SYSTEM
Safe Action

WEIGHT
560 g / 19.75 oz.
LOADED (~)
755 g / 26.63 oz.

LENGTH
160 mm / 6.29 in.
HEIGHT
106 mm / 4.17 in.

MAG. CAPACITY
Standard: 9
OPTIONAL
11/13/15/17

WIDTH
30 mm / 1.18 in.
BARREL HEIGHT
32 mm / 1.26 in.

TRIGGER PULL
2.5 kg / 5.5 lbs.
TRIGGER TRAVEL
12.5 mm / 0.5 in.

LINE OF SIGHT
144 mm / 5.67 in.
BARREL LENGTH
88 mm / 3.46 in.

BARREL RIFLING
right hand, hexagonal
LENGTH OF TWIST
406 mm / 15.98 in.

I took 2 pistols to the range – the G33 and the G36. I wanted to see what my friend was raving about on the G36.

G33:

G36:

Since the G36 is a slimline model; it felt pretty GOOD in the hand, plus, since it’s a single stacked magazine; this helps a LOT slimming down the bulk.

Both pistols felt good and were very easily concealed with a waistband holster. Even the simple leather holster for my belt I have made it very easy to conceal underneath the shirt.
Simple leather belt-holster:

In all, I probably put 200 rounds each down range with no jams at all. I actually tried to make both of them jam by shooting every way I could think of – limp-wrist, upside down, sideways (gangsta style) and a few other ways that resulted in the same – no jam.
*Side Note* I have NO Idea how someone can hit ANYTHING shooting head-over gangsta style!

I wasn’t surprised that there were no jams – it’s a Glock. If it’s one thing the Glock does when the trigger is pulled – is fire.

I Do see what my friend was raving about though. The G36 is a great concealed carry weapon. The recoil on the G36 is less than I had expected. Considering the size and weight; I was expecting a little more than what I got. Triple-taps were easy to hit center-mass on a 7 inch target at 15 and 20 yards.
The G33 is – in my opinion – one of the best subcompact models I’ve fired in a long time.
I was able to jump from the G36 to the G33 between magazines without throwing off my aim or rhythm – hitting center-mass on 7 inch targets without missing – within a 4 to 5 inch pattern around dead center.

So far, I have only found 2 Glocks that felt “thick” in my hand, but it wasn’t these two. That’s for another post at another time.

Anyone else thinks it’s TOOOO hot to go out to the range?????

I went the other day and had to use my shooting gloves and a cap just to keep the sweat off my hand and out of my eyes!

I shot probably 50 rounds before I had to get the gloves because my hands were too sweaty to keep a good grip on the pistol.

I have an indoor range I go to and it’s actually close to me than the outdoor range I like, but I like the outdoor range a whole lot better simply because I don’t have 10 other people beside me..

I believe I’m about to piss a LOT of people off with this post.

I had a chance a few days ago to take a Sig Sauer P226 out to the range and shoot about 300+ rounds through it. These were inexpensive off-the-shelf rounds that I shoot all the time through my other pistols. Out of the 300+ rounds, there were 2 jams – 1 ejection jam and one stove-pipe. This P226 was a new OTB (out of the box) pistol.
It took me a few rounds to get use to the action on this pistol and once use to it, it was a pleasure to shoot.

The Sig Sauer P226 Information:

The SIG SAUER® P226 is the pistol that set the standard by which all other combat handguns are measured. Designed as SIG’s entrant in the military trials to replace the 1911, today the P226 is in use by the U.S. Navy SEALs, Federal agents, and numerous law enforcement agencies including the Texas Rangers, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Michigan State Police to name a few. The exceptional ergonomics and balance make this full-size pistol easy to handle. Available in either 9mm, .357 SIG or .40 S&W, its longer barrel yields better ballistic performance and accuracy.

I had NO problems with this pistol at all – except the 2 jams that were Probably from the ammo used. It was an absolute pleasure to shoot. The P226 is considered a “Carry” pistol in it’s size and weight and I really have nothing bad to say about the pistol itself.

This is where I’m about to piss off a LOT of people probably.

In my personal opinion, the Sig Sauer P226 is WAY over priced. Maybe I’ve missed something here, but I’m not going to pay the MSRP for this firearm at any time. After finding out the price of this pistol, I decided to do a little checking and in my opinion – the whole Sig Sauer name brand is over priced from 9mm to .45cal and everything in between.

There is ONE Sig Sauer I MAY pay MSRP for and that’s the P250, but that’s a different article…

I shot the P226 and the Glock 17 and 19 AND the Smith and Wesson M&P 9 and to tell the truth, I would still rather pick up a Glock than the Sig P226 if I Really needed a weapon and personally, I liked my M&P 9 better than the P226 also. I’m not saying this because of the DA/SA trigger either.

I KNOW there are a LOT of die-heard Sig fans out there; believe me, I know. Nearly every federal agent I’ve ever met carried a Sig Sauer, but take away the hype over the Sig name and all you have is a “very good” pistol – not a “great” pistol.

When it comes down to it; why does someone carry a pistol?? I want my pistol to fire every time I pull the trigger, every time I drop it, and whenever I have to fish it out of the water.

Ok, for all the Sig Sauer Fans out there; sorry, but I wasn’t impressed by the P226. Did I like the Sig Sauer P226? Hell Yes I liked it; but I didn’t like it $929 dollars worth.
The P226 I shot had purchase price of $825.00

I think I found the one I’m going to go with: The Glock 39 .45 GAP sub-compact pistol.

GLOCK 39 .45 G.A.P.

MOST POWER/ SMALLEST PACKAGE
Built around the design parameter of GLOCK’s subcompact models the GLOCK 39 melds deep concealment size with the power and accuracy of the .45 G.A.P. cartridge. This pistol can be considered the GLOCK for the master shooter who wants perfection in a small, powerful package.

PISTOL SIZE: Subcompact

CALIBER: .45 G.A.P.
MAG. CAPACITY: Standard: 6
WEIGHT: 548 g / 19.33 oz.
LOADED: 718 g / 25.33 oz.
BARREL RIFLING: right hand, octagonal
LENGTH OF TWIST:400 mm / 15.75 in.

Difference in the ammo:

Left: .45 GAP / Right: .45 ACP

There’s a little difference – but not much.

A few images of the Glock 39:

I went by the gunshop today and looked at both of the Glock 36 ACP and Glock 39 GAP pistols. There is a little difference in the bodies, but I think I’ve decided to go with the ’39. The price in the ammo is around $5.00 higher, but is a lot more higher when you get into the reloaded ammo. While the ammo is just a touch shorter than the .45 ACP round, the Glock 39 GAP can hold up to 10 rounds while the Glock 36 only holds 6 rounds.
The pistols is plenty small enough to carry concealed easily and packs enough punch to do the job with one round. I think the Glock 39 will do very well in either a shoulder-holster or a ankle-holster.

I’m currently looking to purchase a new pistol. Since I have a “full-size” pistol (a few of them), I’m thinking of going with a sub-compact model. Something I can carry concealed easily.

Right Now; I’m looking at the Glock 36. I’m not sure yet since I haven’t really went to the gun shop and held one. I was just looking at the size of the 36 and it looks like what I’m looking for.

If you have any experience with the Glock 36, I’d be happy to hear about it!

Glock 36 Info:

Specifications/features:
Glock 36 semi-automatic sub-compact slim-line handgun
.45 Auto caliber
3.78″ barrel
6 +1 capacity
Double-action
Trigger, firing pin & drop safety
Scratch- & corrosion-resistant
Non-glare finish
Polymer frame & grips
Cold-hammered, Tenifer-coated barrel
Loaded chamber indicator
Steel fixed sights
5.5 lbs. trigger pull
15.75″ length of twist
6.77″ overall length
4.76″ tall
1.13″ wide
1.26″ barrel height
6.18″ line of sight
20.11 oz. empty
26.99 oz. loaded
Black

I wonder if a trigger modification is possible on the model 36? Modified to something a little lighter maybe.

A little larger image:

Since I haven’t actually held one yet; I’m guessing it would be a good concealed carry weapon for a leg holster or belly-band type holster. I guess I’ll have to drive over to the gun-shop tomorrow and check one out.

I finally was able to take my wife out shooting the other day – after I gave her the Ruger P345 .45 caliber pistol. We’ve always enjoyed shooting, but since she’s not shot ANYTHING in years, I wasn’t sure how she would do.
Also, she had not yet seen “all” the pistols; up until this point, she had only seen the Taurus PT 1911 and The Ruger P345.

The night before going shooting; I did bring out the M&P 9mm – I did this for a very good reason..

So,, the only pistols the wife has seen before going out shooting the next day are:

**The Ruger P345 I gave my wife**

**Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm**

** Taurus PT 1911**

If you notice – there is still one missing… One that she’s not seen yet is the Glock 17.. I did this for a reason!
I know my wife and I was NOT going to bring out the Glock at ALL while we were out, but she needed to see and know about all the pistols. After a few shots from the P345 and the M&P 9 she decided the kind of liked the M&P a little better than the Ruger P345 – I knew this was going to be the case…. Um,,, now you see why the Glock didn’t come out at first..

I finally got the Glock out and let her shoot it – and that was maybe a mistake! She tired her best to get the Glock! ) I stood my ground and told her she’s not getting my Glock! (as if that ever really works)….
I finally broke down and told her she could have the Glock if that’s the one she wanted… I didn’t say anything about going to buy another Glock if she did want it though..
By the time I told her that; she was ok with the M&P 9.

For those looking for a holster that will fit a 1911 or 1911 type pistol, Fobus makes a good one. The ones I’m talking about are the passive retention type holsters – no thumb break.

I have one for the Taurus PT 1911 pistol and at first, I wasn’t too sure about it since I had purchased a Fobus Roto holster for the M&P 9mm. I didn’t take enough time to work with it because when the holster is new (and you’ve never used one of these before), it take a little getting used to and to break the holster in. I ended up calling these holsters “Snatch Holsters” since the holster is make to be worn when drawing the pistol – not holding the holster in hand and trying to remove the pistol from it that way.

The passive retention system is the cup for the trigger guard. The pistols “snaps” into place when pushed into the holster.

The holster show in the picture above is the Evolution Series Holsters from Fobus. It really wasn’t until I got the PT 1911 and the holster with it that I actually worked with the holster to make it easier to remove the pistol from.
The are slightly like the Blackhawk CQC holsters since the Evolution holsters come with a paddle, but unlike the Blackhawk CQC holsters, the belt attachment does not come with the Fobus holsters – those are extra.

I wouldn’t purchase one and think you’re going to win any quick-draw competitions or tactical competitions right out of the gate. These holsters normally need to be adjusted and worked with to limber up the retention system.

Fobus Site’s information on the Evolution Series Holsters:

Introducing the new FOBUS Evolution Series Holster. The Evolution series is the next step in the advancement of holster development. A tension adjustment screw is incorporated to allow the user to customize the ease of presentation and the security of retention, functioning with the proven FOBUS passive retention design.
The new E2 series features one-piece holster body construction, and like all FOBUS Holsters, the Evolution, is lightweight and includes steel reinforced rivet attachment and a protective sight channel. The paddle also includes a rubberized insert to provide both comfort and stability.
FEATURES:
Tension adjustment screw
Rubberized paddle
One piece holster body construction
Steel reinforced rivet attachment system
Protective sight channel

The Evolution Series holsters start out at around $27 to $28 dollars. The Blackhawk QCQ SERPA holsters I purchased were around $59.00. These are two different types and styles of holsters so don’t judge the Blackhawk holsters on this information.
If you feel the need to have the belt attachment AND the paddle, Fobus sells them Here: Roto Paddle Attachment.

The gunshop I go to will let you pull the holster from the bag and try it out before purchasing it. Drop by your local gunshop and see if they have any of the Fobus holsters!

If you’re in the market for a concealed carry type holster; this one is a Great one!

When I purchased my pistols; I also bought a holster for them and the holsters I got were the Blackhawk CQC SERPA holsters.
These holsters come with both the paddle And the belt-loop attachments. The only thing required for changing from paddle to belt-loop is a philips-head screw-driver. There are only 3 screws that hold the attachment to the holster so it’s a pretty quick change over.

These are great holsters if your not wedded to leather type holsters. These are injection molded carbon-fiber holsters and extremely durable for any environment – Level 2 SERPA Carbon Fiber Finish.

Using the paddle takes a little getting use to – to find the best way to remove it when wearing it. There are 2 belt catches on the back of the paddle AND a catch at the bottom of the paddle when inside the pants. It took me a few times wearing it to figure out the easiest way to take the holster off after wearing it.

The holster can be adjusted to tilt to the desired position – the way you like it.

Blackhawk also makes leather holsters if that’s what you like rather than the carbon-fiber.

The price that I paid was around 58 – 59 dollars; the suggest retail price for these holster on blackhawk.com.

Personally, I love these holsters and within the next few weeks, I’ll be getting one for the Taurus PT 1911 I have.

Blackhawk also has a full line of other goodies; apparel, armor, bags and cases, flashlights, footwear, and a TON of other things.
If you’re in the market for a few accessories – jump over to blackhawk.com and take a look around. I bet you’ll find a few things you’re looking for.
** no, I’m not affiliated with blackhawk.com – I just really like their holsters! **

Something else that someone might find interesting is this:
